| It is likely that Avis had an
illegitimate child, William, born at the Coxheath Workhouse in 1869. In
1871 she was living with William at Linton in the Workhouse and
described as a pauper servant. William died in 1877. In 1881 she was a lodger at 99-101, High St. Milton with Henry Caulfield and his four children aged 2 to 9. In the 1881 census she was listed as Avis Caulfield though there is no evidence that they ever married. In 1891 Avis was back at the Workhouse in Linton working as a washer-woman, unmarried. In 1901 she was described as an unmarried house-keeper, living once more with Henry Caulfield at Fox Pitts. Research Craig Brown. |
