| No children. He was living with his parents in 1841; In 1851 he was working on his widowed mother's 20 acre farm at Wanshurst Green. He took over the farm when she died in 1861, employing one man. In 1871 his holding is reduced to 12 acres with a few cows and he is employing two labourers. He may have been a part time postman. By 1881 Mary Ann is a widow living in Howland Road, Marden, acting as house-keeper to her widowed brother in law Thomas Usborne. "Samuel was rather crippled but gentle and a true Christian". |
