Thomas Usborne             Baptised March 19th 1580. Married on October 22nd 1610 to Mary Maplesden Thomas buried 15th Oct.1667 at Staplehurst Mary buried 17th October 1677.

Thomas was a Tanner.   The Marplesdens were an armigerous family probably from Cheveney House in Marden, three miles from Staplehurst. There is a brick inscribed T.U.1654, now built into the stables. Will dated 2nd September 1658. Proved 12th November 1667: Thomas Usborne of Staplehurst, Co Kent Yeoman. I bequeath to my Kinsman Thomas Bowden £5 and Mary Bowden 50/- and Sarah Bowden £10. To my son Edward £30; Joseph £30; To my daughter Anne Housedge £20. Residuary legatee of moveables my son Thomas Usborne to whom I give my mes. called Little Lodenden also my Brickell & the field called Stubcroft it standeth in; & 2 fields called Great and Little Adcocks all lying in Staplehurst, upon the Den of Loddenden. To my son Joseph a piece of land called Farns-field in the same place.
